Well it's now Week 5, after which we will be beyond the half way point in the season. Once this week is over, we should have some idea of who the main players for the 4 playoff spots are. Consensus says that short of a couple teams experiencing a collapse of epic proportions, 3 losses is going to be too many to get you into the playoffs. So Plymouth, Laconia, Monadnock, and Kingswood will be treating each of their next 5 games just like they were actual playoffs. Hanover, John Stark and MV will look to build some momentum and confidence and potentially play the role of spoiler, while Kennet at 3-1 will look to keep their team on track for the playoffs. Lebanon and Trinity will be playing to win the games everyone thinks and expects them to, building for a potential Week 9 showdown with both teams being 8-0. But we must not get ahead of ourselves...1 game at a time :)
So, after going 3-2 in the Division and last week (though I might add I was not so far off picking Hanover to upset Kennett) and 4-1 out of Division, this leaves me at 14-6 overall. That said, it is without one single doubt in my mind, I give you this weeks picks:
Hanover visits Plymouth - Does anyone have a date for the last time Plymouth lost 3 in a row? Has it ever happened? Well, it does this week...the Marauders will win this one, you heard it here first! The Bobcats fall 28-24.
Laconia visits John Stark - If you read the Citizen, Laconia had Lebanon right where they wanted them when they were down 20-7 and the Sachems beat themselves (not sure the Raiders would agree) but who am I. Regardless, look for the Sachems to take some of that angst out on the Generals. Laconia wins big 50-7.
MV goes to Kennett - The Eagles squeaked one out with no time remaining against Hanover. There will be no such drama in this game as they will shut out MV 21-0.
Kingswood travels to Lebanon - The Raiders appear healthy and Cody Patch and company have the offense back on track. Their Defense is among the best in D IV. If they don't get bit by the injury bug, it's hard not to look forward to weeks 8 and 9. Lebanon wins convincingly 32 - 8.
Monadnock visits Trinity - Trinity will have a tougher time than most think against Monadnock. The Huskies line is the REAL DEAL, and they have an All State back in Bolewski. Nonetheless, Trinity remains undefeated as they beat the Huskies 14-13 in a tight one.
Out of Division:
D I - Nashua North @ Salem - North secures themselves as the cream of the crop. North wins 30 - 20
D II - Timberlane hosts Merrimac - Look for a very physical Timberlane to control the line of scrimmage. Merrimac falls 28 - 14.
D III - Pembrok visits Goffstown - Goffstown on top 23-7.
D V - Bishop Brady @ Windham - BB takes this one on the road...21-6.
D VI - Franklin @ Interlakes - All this talk about Newport...Franklin is an impressive team in it's own right. They beat Interlakes this weekend and leave little doubt about that fact and will remain unbeaten (as will Newport). Franklin 45, Interlakes 20.
Thoughts?
What a disappointment for Hanover and their Seniors this year. To come so close in so many games and virtually be out of the playoffs already. Keep fighting Marauders!
ReplyDeleteThoughts....well i do need to comment on Frankin. I wouldn't be so high on them at this point of the season. Look who they have played...Mascoma,Raymond and Farmington a combined record of 1-11 and just squeaked by Gilford by 4 points. They have Interlakes this week. The lakers are not the team they were last year. Franklins true test will be within the next couple of weeks when they play Newfound and Newport back to back.
ReplyDeleteNo way Plymouth loses 3 in a row. Other picks look right though.
ReplyDeleteNice site. How about player rankings??
I second that...how about ranking the D IV players from the various teams and opening that for discussion?
ReplyDeleteThere is a new blog site out there for D-VI coverage.

Glad to hear about the new D VI Blog! Kudo's for some of the smaller schools :)
ReplyDeleteAs for Ranking some of the D IV players. That is something to think about. If anyone has video or links of players or good plays etc... feel free to email them to me ftballnh@gmail.com and we'll see about getting something like that going.
