Well it's now Week 5, after which we will be beyond the half way point in the season. Once this week is over, we should have some idea of who the main players for the 4 playoff spots are. Consensus says that short of a couple teams experiencing a collapse of epic proportions, 3 losses is going to be too many to get you into the playoffs. So Plymouth, Laconia, Monadnock, and Kingswood will be treating each of their next 5 games just like they were actual playoffs. Hanover, John Stark and MV will look to build some momentum and confidence and potentially play the role of spoiler, while Kennet at 3-1 will look to keep their team on track for the playoffs. Lebanon and Trinity will be playing to win the games everyone thinks and expects them to, building for a potential Week 9 showdown with both teams being 8-0. But we must not get ahead of ourselves...1 game at a time :)
So, after going 3-2 in the Division and last week (though I might add I was not so far off picking Hanover to upset Kennett) and 4-1 out of Division, this leaves me at 14-6 overall. That said, it is without one single doubt in my mind, I give you this weeks picks:
Hanover visits Plymouth - Does anyone have a date for the last time Plymouth lost 3 in a row? Has it ever happened? Well, it does this week...the Marauders will win this one, you heard it here first! The Bobcats fall 28-24.
Laconia visits John Stark - If you read the Citizen, Laconia had Lebanon right where they wanted them when they were down 20-7 and the Sachems beat themselves (not sure the Raiders would agree) but who am I. Regardless, look for the Sachems to take some of that angst out on the Generals. Laconia wins big 50-7.
MV goes to Kennett - The Eagles squeaked one out with no time remaining against Hanover. There will be no such drama in this game as they will shut out MV 21-0.
Kingswood travels to Lebanon - The Raiders appear healthy and Cody Patch and company have the offense back on track. Their Defense is among the best in D IV. If they don't get bit by the injury bug, it's hard not to look forward to weeks 8 and 9. Lebanon wins convincingly 32 - 8.
Monadnock visits Trinity - Trinity will have a tougher time than most think against Monadnock. The Huskies line is the REAL DEAL, and they have an All State back in Bolewski. Nonetheless, Trinity remains undefeated as they beat the Huskies 14-13 in a tight one.
Out of Division:
D I - Nashua North @ Salem - North secures themselves as the cream of the crop. North wins 30 - 20
D II - Timberlane hosts Merrimac - Look for a very physical Timberlane to control the line of scrimmage. Merrimac falls 28 - 14.
D III - Pembrok visits Goffstown - Goffstown on top 23-7.
D V - Bishop Brady @ Windham - BB takes this one on the road...21-6.
D VI - Franklin @ Interlakes - All this talk about Newport...Franklin is an impressive team in it's own right. They beat Interlakes this weekend and leave little doubt about that fact and will remain unbeaten (as will Newport). Franklin 45, Interlakes 20.

Trinity and Plymouth
Well it wasn't so much Clash of the Titans...more like Mike Tyson meets Peter McNeely (am I showing my age)?
Plymouth got off the bus, but a bus ride home and their second loss in a row was all they took with them from Manchester. So, now all the Plymouth bashers are out in full force. Everyone is talking about how it's the end of the world, blah, blah, blah.
Look folks the players in Plymouth, hit just like the kids on other teams do. They get hurt just like the kids in other programs do...and (while it doesn't happen all that often), they can also hit a skid like other teams do. Don't count them out just yet.
So, the other side to the coin is all the Trinity bashing going on on other boards. All your hearing now, in any post about Trinity is that good Lord, now Trinity shouldn't be playing in D IV, they should be in D III, they petitioned but were denied, and now they're dismantling D IV. Not fair, not fair! Cry foul!
People relax. Yes, they beat MV handily in week 1. So have other teams (including Plymouth).
The game against Hanover, was not domination.
They almost lost to Laconia.
Yes, they hammered Plymouth.
So what. In 4 games in and they are 4-0. They have an impressive line, a few All State players....just like other teams in D IV. Their Offense has been very impressive in their 1st 4 games, as has their defense. They are 1st in the league in Points Scored and 1st in the league in Points allowed. And yet, they've still been scared twice this season.
Let's keep this in context...it is high school football. All it takes is a couple mistakes and the underdog is on top and wins the game. Besides the season is only half-way over...they could hit a losing streak just like Plymouth. Let's just wait and see what happens the last 5 weeks.

Week 4 Recap
Monadnock controls Stark. The Huskies jump right back in the mix at 2-2 along with Laconia, Plymouth and Kingswood.
Lebanon defeats Laconia. Patch explodes for 181 yds and a pick to go with 3 TDs. Drew adds another for a very convincing victory.
Trinity manhandles the Bobcats. Plymouth drops their 2nd in a row, Trinity continues to roll.
Kingswood defeats MV. Adding to the logjam of teams at 2-2.
Hanover drops a tough one to Kennett. Hanover might just be the best 0-4 team in recent history. The Marauders could just as easily be 4-0.

Week 4 Picks - make 'em quick
Okay so here goes, after going 4-1 in D IV and going 3-2 out of Division that leaves me with an overall record for last week at a not so bad 7-3.
This week:
First the big one! Plymouth @ Trinity - Coach L. gets the troops back on track and starts a new streak. Plymouth shocks Trinity in a not very close game 28-14.
Lebanon @ Laconia - Lebanon gets their offense on track and wins a tough one on the road to stay unbeaten 28-21.
Kennett @ Hanover - Hanover simply has too many weapons to go 0-4. Despite a young O-Line they get their first win of the year. They beat the Eagles 14-13.
Stark @ Monadnock - The Huskies keep on rolling, evening their record at 2-2. They defeat Stark 28-6.
MV @ Kingswood - This one could go either way. When in doubt, go with the Home team. Kingswood by 6, final score 21-7.
Out of Division:
D I - Salem at Pinkerton - Pinkerton takes their 2nd loss in a row losing big to Salem 50-14.
D II - BG @ Merrimack - 2 unbeaten teams in a big game for both. This could be another playoff preview. ToJo and BG win on the road 32-28.
D III - Hollis/Brookline @ Souhegan - Souhegan is very tough at home (or away for that matter). Souhegan stays unbeaten 49-21.
D V - Somersworth at St. Thomas - St. Thomas has a very good team. They stay undefeated this week and win 20-6 at home.
D VI - I'm waiting for the showdown in D VI on 10/23 between Newport and Franklin, as both teams go be undefeated. But this week Newport beats a game Mascoma 52 -13.
Okay let's hear your picks!

Week 3 Recap...and then there were 2.
Week 3 in D IV football was in a word Insane! Plymouth's winning streak has come to it's end. Lebanon and Trinity both finish with come from behind wins to stay unbeaten. MV and Monadnock pick up there first victories.
So as we head into Week 4, some interesting match-ups stand in front of us.
The game we've all been waiting for. Plymouth visits Trinity for (what is still) clash of the Titans, in a possible playoff preview. While there's not quite as much drama as there would have been, had Plymouth come in with their streak in tact. This is still 2 powerhouse programs who will be in the thick of it a month from now. The big question is how will Plymouth react after last weeks loss to Kennett? Look for a battle to unfold in Manchester Friday night!
Lebanon visits Laconia - While not as much drama here, Laconia was on the verge of upending Trinity last week with some spectacular special team play. However, the Pioneers were able to pull it out on a deep pass to 6'7 TE Andrew Lauderdale in the 4th quarter to come from behind for the victory. Lebanon, found itself in 21-0 hole but managed to right the ship and stay perfect on the season thanks to a Justin Judd FG as time expired to pull off a 24-21 come from behind victory itself. This should be another tight game with the Laconia crowd raucous as ever (it is homecoming after all!).
Kennett visits Hanover - Way up after their epic victory over Plymouth, the Eagles come to a winless Hanover team. This Hanover team is much better than their record reflects though, so look for Carney and company to give the visiting Eagles all they want and more.
Stark visits Monadnock - After winning a tight one last week, Monadnock looks to even their record as they host the Generals. Stark looked much better last week in their game against MV though, so the Huskies better be focused and ready to play this weekend.
MV visits Kingswood - Both teams look to get back to .500 in this game. MV looks to have corrected their offensive woes, scoring 35 points last week. However, Kingswood only allowed 9 points in their loss last week, so this looks to be a tougher test for the Pride.
If you have any news, notes or comments on these games, feel free to post them below!

Shout outs!
Did you see a game in Week 3? Want to give a Shout Out to an outstanding performance by a player(s) or maybe a kids first Varsity minutes? Do it here. Please keep the Comments positive, no negative comments will be published. Thanks!
Lebanon shows grit in comeback.
Lebanon had not won a game against Hanover in 6 years and it didn't look as though this year would be any different as Freshman Shawn Cavallaro took the opening kickoff 80+ yards, to the house. The PA attempt was good 7-0 Hanover.
Lebanon struggled on their next possession. Still looking a little shell shocked, they were forced to punt. Hanover proceeded to march down the field ending on a 15 yard Carney TD pass to Rothwell-Ferraris...PA attempt good Hanover up 14-0.
The Raiders next possession wasn't much different as they were forced to punt again. Carney led his team down the field again ending on a Staiger dive right up the gut, PA Attempt good, Hanover up 21-0.
This blogger happened to notice the Trinity crew up in the stands taking notes, etc...and I found myself wondering how long they might stay. Surely they weren't seeing a whole lot that might concern them...right? Then the game got absolutely crazy.
Senior QB Jon Roth led the Raiders down the field deep into Hanover territory. Then on a fourth and long drops back to pass and hit Sophmore RB Dylan Drew coming out of the back field for a big 15 yard gain and the all important 1st down.
That drive then appeared to stall out at the Hanover 5yd line as Staiger and company stacked the Raiders up 3 separate times leaving them at 4th and 5. Roth then connected with All State Senior Cody Patch for a 5yd TD. PA Attempt good 21-7 Hanover.
After a 3 and out for Hanover, Roth led the Raiders to another score on an 18 yard TD Pass to his TE. PA Attempt no good 21-13 Hanover as the halftime horn sounded, and the place was absolutely rocking. The packed Raider field was incredibly loud with Marauder fans chanting and cheering and Raider fans doing the same (it was an almost college atmosphere).
As the 3rd Quarter started Roth then took his team methodically down the field marching 70 plus yards over 8 minutes, 10 plus plays, culminating in a 1 yard QB Keeper. Score 21-19 Hanover. The Raiders then went for the 2 point conversion hoping to tie the game.
The ball was placed on the left-most hash and Roth took the snap and rolled to his right. Instead of passing, he took a gamble and ran it into the end zone. As he crossed the goal line he was absolutely rocked in a hit that removed his helmet from his head. Though woozy he was able to stay in the now tied up game 21-21.
By this time momentum had clearly shifted and as the Raider Defense stopped Hanover cold (Jr. Linebacker Chris Barker was an absolute animal in this game...particularly in the 4th quarter.
Hanover's defense held tight though, as the Raiders ran the ball in what seemed like alternating sequence of pounding runs from Patch and Drew, Patch and Drew, methodically marching down the field. They arrived at the 1 yard line. Staiger, and the rest of the Hanover D line held them solid forcing a fumble on the 1 yard line which was pounced on by Carney.
Carney was then picked 3 plays later by Justing Judd who returned it to the 10 yard line. After pounding it to the 5 yard line, Carney was able to scoop up another fumble by the Raiders and ran it back up field. However the Raider Defense held Hanover in check and they were forced to punt. The punt seemed to shank off the side of the punters foot which left the ball at the 50 yard line with just over a minute on the clock.
Then it got even crazier. After successive run, and short passes by Drew, Patch and Barker, the Raiders found themselves looking at a 40ish yard field goal with 3 seconds to go.
Justin Judd nailed the field goal as time expired, comeback complete, and the place absolutely exploded. Game over Lebanon wins 24-21 and it was an amazing night of football and it ranks up there with one of the best football games I have ever seen. This was one of those games that left you feeling sad that either team had to lose.

It's why we play the games - Sachems/Pioneers Bobcats/Eagles? I'm just saying...
With everyone assuming next Friday's matchup between Trinity and Plymouth, is going to be Clash of the Titans, neither of these teams should look beyond their Week 3 opponent. Both have substantial tests in front of them.
Trinity faces a 2-0 Laconia team with a big stong front line and the weapons in the backfield to cause problems for any team (Steele/Lanphear and company). While the Trinity O-Line is (in a word) massive and disciplined in what they do, the key to this game is going to be execution. If they are not focused on this crafty and well coached Sachems team, they could be in for quite a battle.
Plymouth faces a 1-1 Kennett team that was an extra point kick away from possibly 2-0 with momentum being what it is. With their confidence up after an outstanding performance last week over Stark, this could be an upset in the making. Every D IV team brings their absolute A game when they play Plymouth, so the Bobcats cannot look past this game to next week. In the first 2 games of the season the Eagles have allowed only 7 points, so they are not, (nor should they be) taken lightly.
Say what you will, a loss by the Pioneers or Bobcats is not so far outside the realm of possibility that it shouldn't be considered.
So, if the cards fall as most of us think they will, we will see the epic battle everyone is anticipating next Friday. Two unbeatens in a D IV clash with they hype we haven't seen in quite some time. But is the game just as big if one of them loses this week? I'm just saying...

Sad News for D I Elite RB Mike Kelly
Mike Kelly is apparently done for the season. So sad to see this happen to any young athlete, and even worse when they're a Senior. Our best wishes to Mike and his family.

This weeks games...Week 3 predicitions. Make your picks!
Many interesting games this week. Here are my picks and previews:
Hanover @ Lebanon - Have you heard....Lebanon and Hanover are rivals. A health(ier) Cody Patch jumps back on the offensive side of the ball and combined with that tough Raider D, they take back the cup despite a (no doubt) big game from Staiger and Carney in this rivaly. Lebanon wins (28-20).
Stark @ MV - both teams looking for win #1. MV wins (21-7).
Plymouth @ Kennett - Plymouth gets a tough game from Kennett, but pull it out and the streak moves on. Plymouth wins a defensive struggle (7-0).
Kingswood @ Monadnock - Blake Bolewski is too much for Kingswood. Monadnock gets their first victory (21-8).
Laconia @ Trinity - Hmmm Trinity has to win this one don't they, so we can have the two titans matching up undefeated in Week 4. Trinity (cuz fate said it must be so) and their Double Wing offense are just too much. They defeat a tough Laconia team (29-21).
Games of the week outside of the Division (yes we'll dabble a little there also) -
D I - Nashua North vs. Pinkerton - Pinkerton continues it's winning ways (21-14).
D II - BG vs. Spaulding - even without Mike Kelly (he's hurt or didn't you hear), Spaulding is no match (28-13).
DIII - Portsmouth vs. Con Val - Portsmouth gives Con Val all they want, but lose in a tight one. Con Val takes it 14-13 in a come from behind victory in the 4th quarter.
D V - Brady vs St. Thomas - St. Thomas going away (35-6).
D VI - Mascoma vs Farmington - both squads looking for their first W. Farmington takes it in a tight one at home (21-20).

Week 2 football in D IV.
Laconia improved their record to 2-0 after defeating a game MV squad. The Sachems will have their hands full though in week 3, as visiting Trinity comes to town. Trinity scratched out a victory in Hanover over the weekend improving to 2-0. One of these teams will record their first loss of the season one of the unbeatens will fall.
While Mike I.'s Marauders have yet to win their first game, their young team has been in both of their losses right up to the end. Week 3 should prove to be another tough contest as they visit cross town rival Lebanon in the annual Principals' Cup game. History would seem to be on the Marauders side as they have won the last 6 contests with the Raiders.
Lebanon, looks to get back in synch by next week after a shaky win over Monadnock. While their record stands at 2-0, it was their bend but don't break defense that staved off the visiting Monadnock Huskies. Their offense seemed to struggle but their defense continually answered the call and denied the Huskies, possession after possession. The Huskies have a very good team, led by all state RB Blake Bolewski.
Monadnock looks to get their first victory as they visit a Kingswood team that became the latest victim of the powerhouse that is...Plymouth.
Stark plays MV this weekend as one of these teams will record their first victory, and Plymouth looks to improve their winning streak as they visit Kennett. The Eagles recorded their first win in impressive fashion, crushing John Stark 41-0.
If you had the chance to view any of these games, please comment with the details to recognize some of the kids/teams.
Week 2 D IV Standings:
Laconia 2-0-0
Lebanon 2-0-0
Trinity 2-0-0
Plymouth 2-0-0
Kingswood 1-1-0
Kennett 1-1-0
Hanover 0-2-0
Stark 0-2-0
Merrimack Valley 0-2-0
Monadnock 0-2-0

Welcome!
New Hampshire High School Football! With all the press and most of the Internet information revolving around D III and higher divisions of NH football, I thought I'd create a blog dedicated (mainly) to news, discussion and coverage of the D IV bracket. But other discussion/posts are always welcome. Let the discussion begin.
